When Music Clicks: A Fall Journey at Pilgrim Lutheran

โ€œToday was my first class, and I had a really good time,โ€ Angela Rojas wrote after her first session back in October. What started as a nervous first day turned into six weeks of wonderful momentum.

Finding Their Rhythm

That first week, Angela kept it simple with rhythm games. The energy was immediate. โ€œAll the students were excited to learn,โ€ she noted.

By week two, they were already moving faster than expected. Beat decoders, Simon Says, Rocket Race. โ€œWe had enough time for every activity and kids were engaged with every part,โ€ Angela observed. Students so locked in that the hour flew by.

The Harmonidome Effect

Then came week five, and something clicked.

The students discovered Harmonidome. โ€œThey really liked Harmonidome and the characters (the instrument graphics),โ€ Angela wrote. These kids asked to play it again.

By the final session, Angela brought it back. โ€œStudents by now are able to identify instruments and its families,โ€ she noted. Curious faces staring at screens had turned into confident young musicians who could tell you the difference between a brass instrument and a woodwind.

The Final Session

โ€œIt went well! We did a review about instrument families and went into Rocket race for instruments (hard),โ€ Angela wrote on that last day. Hard mode. These kids were ready for the challenge.

Then came the awards, the certificates, the keychains. The tangible proof of what they'd accomplished. Watch your child's face when they recognize a violin in a song, or point out the drums in the background of their favorite track. What a wonderful fall.
